I still can't understand how so many of our fellow Americans don't find this exciting to watch!

What an amazing race. Lots of close passing. Guys were racing the entire 12hrs. Not to mention, Bathhurst is a beautiful track
Overall, much more fun race than Daytona 24

Oh Mika Salo racing for Maranello Motorsport? That's nice, didn't know he was on it.
That was absolutely amazing ending btw.

Excellent race.
And this is outstanding evidence against commentators. I hate them.

Absolutely fantastic stuff. Earlier on the McLaren Mercedes battle for first was just as good. I was really rooting for the McLaren, but breathtaking driving all around.

A Mclaren hunting down a SLS hunting down another SLS hunting down a 458? I'm gonna have to take a shower to cool down from this one.

The regular V8s guys are better.

If I knew when it was being broadcast or even when this race was happening I'd be all over it.

What happens if we are going to watch a race, and I talk to you non-stop since we hit the entry till we leave? how many minutes till you slap me? or send me to hell? or punch me in the face? Same happens with commentators. Can they shut up at least 10%, to let me hear the engine's music?, but no, they talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk.
I'm married already. With two daughters. I love silence, its a treasure.

Classic Bathurst ending
Classic Lowndes ending too, he's still my favorite driver ever since he raced Falcons for Triple Eight in the V8SC.

True, Shane Van Gisbergen made some fairly heroic efforts in the McLaren earlier on.

The commentators are good IMO.
But they ought to put multiple audio tracks in their feeds anyway.
![]() 02/09/2014 at 12:37 |

The commentary was being provided by (the excellent) Radio Le Mans so therefore if they did shut up the sizable numbers who were only listening would not have a clue what was going on!
![]() 02/09/2014 at 12:58 |
|
If it's the end of the race and it's this close, of course the announcers should to be excited . Really isn't the time for raw audio. Also if you find John Hindhaugh and the Radio Le Mans crew annoying then God help you because it doesn't much better than this.

I'm under the impression that Blue Mountains raceway in Forza Motorsport was based on this track. Hellish to master

That was an immensely entertaining race, I watched a hefty amount of hours because it was so exciting. The bar has been raised. The broadcast was excellent and there were no governing body shenanigans to hamper the action.

NASCAR this, NASCAR that.
Stop bashing NASCAR and figure out a way to get the TV audience to care about road racing. For decades, the public has shown little interest in road racing and open-wheel cars.
I love this type of racing (except no passes for position in 17+ minutes) but I'm certainly not going to blame anyone else for the fact that I like something that's unpopular here in the US. I like to say " Everything sucks, you just like some of it." Or "Everything is great, but you fail to realize it"
And nothing is as good as Supercross, right now. Take that!

Damn good race. I love that track. I want to drive it so badly, but in the meantime, time to play Forza 5.

Someone needs to show this to the France family, and explain to them how this is you put on a sports car race.

hell yes it was, fuck le mans. bathhurst has always been my favorite

Give Aussie V8s a try. The commentator's know when to hush and go for a ride with the onboards. The banter between each other is great, and they generally have insightful things to say what's going on instead of telling you what you just saw. And if you get their online pass you don't have to deal with commercials, and the commentator's disappear for awhile.

Misleading title . That's not what Australians call 'Bathurst'. It's held at the same place, but it isn't the traditional race referenced by that name. That race is only for V8 Supercars. Just so you know.
![]() 02/09/2014 at 16:21 |

I watched about 10 of the 12 hours and there were many times they did actually purposely stop talking so we could all listen to the engines - the SLS V8 music especially. And there was quite a bit of commentary about the differences between the high-revving 458 versus the throatier Maclaren versus the mean rumble of the SLS.

In case you didn't know, Craig Lowndes originally raced for HRT, then switched to Ford for quite a while, then Triple Eight changed manufacturers, so he came back to Holden.

That is a regular v8 guy lol, Dummy. Yeah try packing that excitement into the length of one v8 super car race, it simply doesn't happen. Also the ferraris mclarens sls and r8's are way cooler than a spec of the same car!

BTW if you think this didn't kick the living shit out of not only DAYTONA, BUT ANY RACE THAT WAS BROADCAST ON US TV in the last 5 years you gotta get off the crack pipe or your just full of shit.

Neither Hindhaugh or the other voice comment V8s. The other guy might do Utes, but I'm not positive - definitely not V8s though.
I guess you didn't watch this year's Bathurst 1000?

BE CAREFUL FELLAS.
If you heard the MRN doing daytona broadcast relating everything to football you wouldn't be complaining. Hindhaugh is a legend you fools.

This video needs to include previous battle between both SLS and Ferrari where Ferrari is working so haarrrd. Watching him defend was like watching a shark after a tuna.

I don't really like Lowndes but "Lowndsey's car" who is usually a Commodore, changed into a Ferrari 458 for the weekend and continued its usual Tweeting.
https://twitter.com/T8_888_car
Oh yeah, because there was only one in the team, Lowndsey's car's pet hate of double stacking never happened. Someone did leave a pit board in pit lane though and they got a drive-through for that. Lowndsey's car was angry.

I don't think it was broadcast anywhere but the website.
Even us in Australia only got a highlights video. I missed the whole race because we just moved house and we only have internet on our phones.

There was amazing racing throughout the 12 hours. One of the best long endurance races I've ever seen, probably. Shane's pushing on Bernd around the 5 hour mark was awesome too.
Also, interesting point of comparison, the final safety car at 18 minutes, Daytona v Bathurst:
Daytona 24: Porsche taps wall at far edge of good grass runoff, clears itself, continues running, no danger. Full course caution that lasts over 12 minutes to ???.
Bathurst 12: Porsche stopped on track right next to track boundary, close to walls. Can't get running again. Full course caution that lasts five minutes to fully recover car and clear course.
In summary: screw TUSCC.

The last 3 hours were shown live in Australia on SBS

I've only just learned that Bathurst is included in GT6. Now I have to buy it, for the one track. I've never understood why Bathurst isn't recognized outside of Jalop-like circles as being just about the best track in the world for sports car racing. It's incredible. It's like Laguna Seca, but with a much larger set of cajones.

Wow. That was one of the best battles for first I've ever seen. And I'm a bit foggy, but are those GT3 cars?

The last 3 hours were live on SBS, and mayyybe on one of the pay channels.. otherwise Live Stream. Bit of a shame considering the cars are faster and cooler than super taxis.
![]() 02/10/2014 at 05:50 |

Correct. Faster than a V8Supercar over the top of the Mt by 3 seconds..
![]() 02/10/2014 at 07:09 |

Yeah completely amazing race, I watched the first 10 hours or so off and on. Much more intense racing, and MUCH better coverage than we get here in the states.

My thoughts exactly... I was like wait the sls gt3 has been described as "da best!" - german accent so im curious how the mp4 12c gt3 and the 458 italia gt3 were giving them a hard time considering the sls has better braking and straightline speed.

Wowowow absolutely amazing racing there. I dont follow v8 supercars all the time, but i thought there was a craig lowndes in that series?

Are these cars all on track at the same time? Or are there several different 12 hour races?
![]() 02/14/2014 at 08:10 |

All at once man, like Le Mans. Adds a nice variable into the racing - traffic and overtaking strategically. Variety too plus you get a few surprises like one of the GT3 B Porsches was 3rd overall in a sea of GT3 A cars earlier in the race

I feel bad for the guys in the Abarth. Get railed around by a McLaren at Mach 5. It would terrify me.
![]() 02/15/2014 at 05:59 |

There is actually a mindset with the guys being overtaken, some allow overtakes and some are stubborn. Comparing the Abarths or even the Focusses is an extreme example I guess but you see this with GT4 vs GT3
![]() 02/15/2014 at 17:20 |

If I was in the obviously slower car I would try to let them pass I think.

Ya, that's b/c cautions in the US are a complete joke. They're not always necessarily used to clear a car of danger, they're used as an excuse to bunch up the field and artificially create parity or suspense on the restarts. Nascar is notorious for this with their endless barrage of yellow flags. They'll throw a yellow if a visor tear off is on the track. Indycar is guilty of it to, although to a lesser extent. Sadly, IMSA has fallen further victim to this ridiculous practice since being taken over by Nascar.

Sports car racing at its best. These cars look so much quicker than the GT cars in TUSC, I wonder why. Maybe it's just the track?
